The Clef Club

Our Mission

The Clef Club enhances the cultural presence of jazz in Philadelphia and promotes projects that benefit jazz musicians. We preserve and promote jazz history by providing educational and cultural services.

Cultivating Artistry

The Clef Club provides opportunities for the growth of performing artists and emphasizes instrumental achievement. We serve artists and the surrounding community by providing a forum for jazz appreciation. The Clef Club provides classes and seminars to groups and individuals and organizes concerts, master classes and informal jam sessions that expose children and adults to jazz.

Preserving History

Additionally, the Clef Club is a repository for historic jazz artifacts.  These cultural relics are studied and admired by scholars, educators, artists and the general public.

We are firmly committed to:

  • Offering Philadelphia residents and visitors performances by outstanding jazz artists and groups.
  • Providing an attractive venue for jazz concerts.
  • Cultivating an audience that appreciates and understands jazz.
  • Offering opportunities for professional and emerging jazz musicians to improve their skills.
  • Developing young talent through instruction on site and in public schools.
  • Educating students of diverse racial and ethnic groups about the key roles played by African Americans in the development of jazz.
  • Drawing attention to the impact of jazz on other art forms.
  • Collecting, preserving and making accessible the historic records of Philadelphia's jazz community.
  • Exploring and establishing cooperative and project-oriented partnerships with other institutions.

Satisfying the Needs of Philadelphia's Jazz Community

Through perseverence and dedication to our mission, The Clef Club hopes to keep the flame of Philadelphia's deep-rooted jazz culture burning for years to come. It is a fire that we can all share, a fire that we can come together around and embrace as our city's cultural legacy. By stoking this fire, we bring warmth to Philadelphia.
